MANAGING EMPLOYEES THROUGH THE AUTHORITY AND CHARISMA

Abstract

Leaders who lead their employees to achieve the common goals of the organization have a great responsibility to manage people and that's why it's very important to approach them in the right way so that tasks are done effectively and efficiently, and employees remain motivated for a new task. Whether a leader uses authority or charisma, it's primarily necessary to know what motivates his people more and which approach will reach out to his employees more easily. While an authoritarian leader strives for a strictly business relationship, a charismatic leader strives for a friendly relationship. In the multitude of character-diverse people who are working in an organization, there will always be a majority who find an authoritarian leader inadequate while for others he is going to be ideal for their productivity and ultimately for achieving common goals. The task of the leader is to estimate how he will lead people (strictly business, through friendly relations, with time pressure, with praises and awards…) and following that, the tasks should be done at the right time and with positive results for both, the organization and the employees, because after all, the characteristics of a leader are reflected in the work of employees. The results of empirical research on employee perception and personal acceptance of authoritarian and charismatic leaders in organizations as well as their impact on productivity indicate that a charismatic leader is almost always perceived as ideal. On the other hand, the authoritarian is perceived as a less desirable leader because his approach leads to a decrease in employees’ productivity and their satisfaction is declining daily.
