WAR ON THE ENVIRONMENT AND THE LEGAL FRAMEWORK

Ines Besarović

Abstract

We are witnessing an ecological war - a war against nature that threatens the environment due to the increasing pollution of the atmosphere leading to disruption of the planetary climate, as well as endangering human health and the disappearance of plant and animal species. The definition of environmental warfare is the destruction and pollution of nature and the environment using various chemical, biological and other deadly agents. Given that corporations rule the world, that is, the money of the rich and powerful, the victims of the environmental war are first and foremost poor and underdeveloped countries, most often resource-rich. It is a new kind of sophisticated genocidal action designed to destroy the natural environment of the adversary with the goal of destroying it. Environmental warfare involves various forms of environmental destruction. Humanity's concerns are not without foundation. Climate change is increasingly being talked about and written about. It is high time for states to take responsibility and become major actors in preventing the conscious omission or failure to apply the technical guidelines and standards in place to preserve the natural balance of the earth. The state and environmental laws should restrain corporations from maximizing profits that dramatically threaten the environment and our planet. The accumulation of toxic waste, especially in poor countries, where Serbia also belongs, should be stopped. For this, in addition to adequate regulations, it is necessary to develop an awareness of the harmful effects of human activities. Environmental awareness and ethics are the commandments of reason in the 21st century.
